How Often Should You Water Houseplants?

There is no universal schedule. How often a plant needs water depends on the species, pot size and material, light level, humidity and the season.

The reliable method is to check the soil, not the calendar: push a finger an inch or two into the soil and water only when it feels dry at that depth (succulents prefer the soil fully dry first).

Most plants need less water in winter when growth slows. Use the watering calculator on this site to get a starting interval for your specific plant and conditions, then adjust by feel.
